Description Loa loa is a white, threadlike worm that measures 3070 mm in length and is about 0.3 mm in diameter. It is transmitted to humans by diurnally biting tabanid flies (deerflies) of the Chrysops species that live in the rain forests of western and central Africa. It occurs in other parts of the world, including the United States, primarily in visitors from these regions and occasionally in persons who have visited such regions.
