Description |
exterior; Strawberry Hill, which took its name from the local area, started out as a modest house. It was transformed by Horace Walpole who doubled its size, expanded the plot from 5 acres to 46 acres, added towers and battlements, and filled the house with treasures that reflected his personal obsession with fashion, style and architecture. Walpole enlisted his "The Committee of Taste" to transform the house. This included Richard Bentley, who was an artist and draughtsman and John Chute who was responsible for much of the main elevations of the house and the interiors. |
