Show This studio portrait shows Reverend Samuel E. Wishard, Westminster College trustee and veteran missionary for the Synod of Utah, in full outdoor attire. This semi full body pose shows Wishard standing with his head turned toward the camera, but not looking directly at it. The background is washed out making Wishard the eminent figure in the photograph. He is standing with one arm hanging to his side and his other arm propped upon a bag that is slung over his shoulder. He wears a long dark overcoat that is buttoned to about mid-torso. Underneath the overcoat he wears pastor clothing which includes a dark suit coat buttoned all the way to his neck and a white shirt with a high collar and pin to keep the collar secure around his neck. The white shirt cuffs are visible as they protrude from beneath the arms of the overcoat. He wears dark glossy leather gloves and appears to be holding a walking stick in the arm hanging down at his side and an umbrella in the arm propped upon the bag. The |

This photograph is in excellent condition, but is mediocre in quality as it lacks the look and feel of a professional photograph studio. There is no written marks or blemishes on the front of the photograph and on the back is pencil written, " Rev, S.E. Wishard, D.D."; below the name is stamped, "7454." The photograph does show some age discoloration and the edges are slightly worn. Reverend Samuel Ellis Wishard was a veteran missionary for the Synod of Utah in the early 1890s. In March of 1892 he was appointed as a board of trustee by the Utah Presbytery to oversee funding for the proposed four year college. Wishard embarked on a massive funding campaign for the college that would last well into the early 1900s. In 1905 George Bailey resigned as Westminster College's second President and Wishard was the first choice as his replacement; however, he declined for age and health reasons.
