The University of Utah track and field team wrapped up the Robison Invitational on Saturday with six athletes posting new lifetime personal bests. Senior Sarah Grimm broke Utah's school record in the hammer throw. Freshmen Nikkie Rudder and Natalie Young broke into the top five all-time list at Utah in their individual events. Grimm, who works with throwing coach Tapio Kuusela, had a break through in the hammer throw on Saturday with a lifetime personal best of 207-1.75 (63.14m) to take first place overall in the event. Second place in the event was Krista Larson, an unattached athlete that threw a 192-1.50 (58.56m). Grimm was ranked first in the conference and eighth nationally going into this weekend's meet with her previous PR of 202-6. Freshman Amanda Pais also posted a personal best in the event with a toss of 113-5.50 (34.58m) for 21st place overall. Freshman Nikkie Rudder won the shot put on Saturday with a new lifetime personal best with a toss of 45-9.25 (13.95m) which ranks fifth all-time in school history. She also earned seventh overall in the discus with a toss of 129-7 (39.50m). In the pole vault, freshman Theresa Waybright earned third overall with a clearance of 11-11.75 (3.65m). In the 1500m run, freshman Megan Combe and senior Sydney Osmun both set new personal bests. Combe earned fourth place overall with a time of 4:39.82 (altitude adjusted). Osmun finished the race in 4:51.27 to earn eighth place overall. Young competed in the 200m and 400m events. In the 200m dash, Young set a new lifetime personal best with a time of 24.97 (13th place), which ranks third all-time in Utah school history. In the 400m, she earned seventh place overall with a time of 57.47. |
