The University of Utah women's track and field team sent their distance medley relay team to the Alex Wilson Invitational as a last chance to qualify for the 2010 NCAA Indoor National Championships. The Utes finished fifth overall with a provisional qualifying time of 11:13.77. Freshman Amanda Mergaert ran the first leg (1200m) in 3:27 to get the Utes into second place. She handed off to freshman Alyssa Johnson for the 400m leg. Johnson was in the top five of the pack with her split of 54.08 before handing off to sophomore Lucy Yates. She ran the 800m leg with a time of 2:06.08 to get the Utes back into second place. Junior Alyssa Abbott finished the race for Utah with the 1600m leg with a split of 4:44. The Utes finished fifth overall with a combined time of 11:13.77. Their time is currently 12th in the country and first in Utah school history. |
