Enter Drawing for Free Buzz Tickets The hospital's Social Activities Committee is sponsoring a drawing for tickets to this Thursday's Salt Lake Buzz baseball game ( it starts at 7 p. m.). To enter the drawing, fill out the entry form on the back page of this week's Pulse and return it to Public Affairs, room A045 UHOSP. You also can enter the drawing by calling the office, xl- 7387, between 8 a. m.- 5 p. m. Be sure to leave your name, department and phone number. All entries must be received by this Wednesday at 2 p. m. Winners will be contacted by phone that afternoon. The committee has nine pairs of tickets to give away. During the game's seventh inning stretch, the winners of this year's Salt Lake City Corporate Games will be recognized. Teams from UH claimed the gold medal in tennis, the silver medal in fishing and the bronze medal in mountain biking. Teams are still competing in the Softball, volleyball, golf, and indoor climbing competitions. Watch next week's Pulse for a wrap up of the games. Brown Bag It on the Browning; Outdoor Music Starts Aug. 16 HSC employees are invited to enjoy lunch and live music on the medical school's Browning Plaza the week of Aug. 16 as part of this year's Brown Bag Concert Series. Sponsored by University Hospital and the Salt Lake City Arts Council, the 45- minute concerts will begin at 12: 15 p. m. Featured performers will include: Ryan Shupe & The Rubber Band, newgrass/ folk; Enoch Train, folk; Cottonwood Ensemble, classical chamber music; Mambo Jumbo, salsa/ latin jazz; Doug Wintch Band, folk/ country/ blues. The concert series is held throughout August and begins this week with lunchtime performances at Exchange Place ( 350 South Main). Next week the concerts will be at the City Creek Park ( North Temple and State Street) and the week of Aug. 23 at the Eagle Gate Plaza ( South Temple and State Street). UH Summer Barbecue Next Thursday University Hospital's second summer barbecue is next Thursday, Aug. 12 from 11 a. m.- 4 p. m. Tickets will be distributed to departments prior to the event. Oacis EMR Rollout Schedule Finalized Special to Pulse from the Office of Information Resources The pilot areas for the Oacis electronic medical record ( EMR) will be 3North and NCC. Training will begin September 9 with the pilot go- live scheduled for September 25. Immediately following the first- use areas, perioperative areas will be trained. Along with Surgical Services going live, the electronic signature functionality will be piloted utilizing Operative Reports beginning October 20. Expert Users for the various clinical units and departments are currently testing the system and practicing their skills on the Oacis EMR. East High Students Quilt for NBICU East High School students Maria Ward and Brecken Bingham present the NBICU's Sharon Bishop, R. N., with more than 300 quilts made by students as part of a school service project. Approximately 50 students helped make the quilts during the year- long project, according to teacher Patricia Johnston. Health Sciences Names Making News Karleen S. Callahan, Ph. D., a research professor with appointments in the medical school and the College of Pharmacy, has received the American Hospital Association's John J. Sampson, M. D., Research Award. The award is presented annually to the two top- rated grant recipients in the organization's Western States Affiliate. Jason Traeden, senior systems analyst, Office of Information Resources, was recently quoted in the magazine Network World, regarding the hospital's use of systems management applications designed by Hewlett- Packard. U of U police officer Daniel A. Stanton, has been granted a lifetime membership in the national registry of Who's Who. The year 2000 edition of the publication will come out this October. Stanton is stationed at the hospital full time. Photography From Four Corners Area Featured in Hallside The photography of Susan Makov is featured this month in the Hallside Gallery ( AC113, SOM). An expert in hand- colored photographs, she co- authored the book Trading Post Guidebook: Where to Find the Trading Posts, Galleries, Auctions, Artists, and Museums of the Four Comers Region . " Although my images evoke turn of the century images, my photographs look at the juxtaposition between what is historical and 20th century additions. I like to see how the environment of the southwest influences human activity," said Makov.
