Donation box (saisen bako), often with a slatted cover, is for votive purpose and found in many of major temples and shrines in Japan. Generally, small coins are all that is necessary for the box. Amanohashidate is a pine-covered sand spit whose name means "bridge to heaven." Image was scanned from color slide. Caption is from photographer's notes on slide |
