Forest--Ashley National Forest--Ranger Station--Walkup, George |
Description |
Ranger George Walkup further developed the station in 1925-26. Funds were received to build a warehouse/office and a garge/woodshed. It was a year-round station and the recommendation of an additional room and a bathroom on the dwelling. This would require piping water to the house and installation of modern plumbing. It was also proposed at this time to build a porch for the office, a cellar, and a new brick chimney to replace the cement one on the house. The New Deal funds and CCC labor made possible the extensive redevelopment of the Elkhorn Ranger Station. ] |
