Miller - Cahoon building from 1906 (When built) to 1924 (out of business) located at 4840-4814 So. State Street, formerly occupied by the Phoenix Saloon. When Miller-Cahoon went out of business in 1924, Carlisle Motor Co. moved their automobiles into the bottom floor of the building as their own showroom had recently burned down. It is unknown who the "Berry" in Berry-Block is. Miller-Cahoon had acquired a Piggly-Wiggly franchise thereby introducing Murray to the concept of self-service grocery shopping (. Next to this store is the Hoffman Building built in 1897 and next to that you can make out the top corner of the Murray Mercantile. Although |
