Description |
Matthew Caldwell was born June 11, 1822 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He served in the Mormon Battalion and was a Pioneer to the West. He came to the Uinta Basin, where he settled in Dry Fork. He also helped to settle other Utah communities: Beaver, Fountain Green and American Fork where he built the first home. He was a polygamist, having five wives. He has lots of posterity in the Basin. He died March 18, 1912 and is buried in the Maeser Cemetery. |
