Show Lochee No 28 1853 Mr John Esplin Dear friend, we received your last note in due time along with your power of atorny but else you have misunderstood me or else I had not known how things stood when I wrote you. If I have not wrote you a correct statement how things was left and how they are to be managed let me do it now. The estate of your fathers was left to you all to share alike. The papers of statement bears out that now those that are at home wished to sell the property and let every one of you get their share. I took the papers to an atorny to examine to see if that could be be don but he toald me that that could not be don without an pour of atorny sent from here to you and your brother William to be signed by you and him empowering some party to act in your behalfs. These powr of atornies I got duly maid out in my own name to send to you boath as soon as I could find out brother Williams whereabouts but dear John I am afraid of William now as we have got no letter from him first two months after he landed and went to the diggings. I hope to good he is still in the land of the living and I hope before longue to hear from him. I have to letters sent to personal aquantanses in Australa to try to get any intelgence of him. I would wrote on receipt of your letter I were not always waiting every other mail hoping to reseive some tidings of our longue lost brother, but up to this date there is none. But perhaps we may… we will get the chearfoul news that he is found and well. I will write on receipt of first intelagince and send to you this powr of atorny as the one you sent me is no use. I am sorrow that I have been the means of the keeping of this document and causing you so much trouble and uneasiness, but I hope that I will in a short time be able to put you out of this dilema. Dear brother this leaves us all in the engagement of good helgth at present. B George and family are well. Thomas Walase and family are good helgth, likewise T Webster an Aunt Bell. Traid hear is now getting a little slak en at present. Provisions is very high. Oat meal per.. is £2 & potatos per … 1.8.0 All other things equally as dear with all. having a good year, but the Australia shipings is taking a great deal of provisions out. We have no news of any moment to send you at present. Hope that you are well and getting on well. I remain your brother David Annand |
