Letters from Allen H. Lundgren in Europe to wife Ruth in Salt Lake City during September of 1944, while serving in the U.S. Army's Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. From France, the Ninth Division crossed into Belgium. The letter of Sept. 13 describes the celebratory mood of the Belgian people, and mentions rumors about "armies of occupation" that Allen hopes are not true, lest they prolong his stay away from home. By mid-month, he was in Germany, where the initial feelings of the locals ranged from welcoming to fearful. His letter of September 24 describes his impressions of Paris a month before. Also includes a letter to "Joe," probably Ruth's brother, Joseph F. Horne, detailing his life as a soldier and CIC agent. Letters dated Sept. 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 17, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 30. |
