Description The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is associated with a variety of ophthalmic manifestations. Neuro-ophthalmic pathology is often secondary to opportunistic infections. C. neoformans Is one of the more common fungal agents. Recently several AIDS patients with cryptococcal meningitis and optic neuropathy have been reported. 3 Improvement in afferent visual system pathology has not been documented previously, e report three patients with AIDS who had improvement in presumed cryptococcal optic neuropathy following amphotericin 8 treatment.
