Mary Kimura and Emily Ichida Oral History Interview

Oral History Interview by Ken Verdoia with Mary Kimura and her daughter, Emily Ichida. A Portuguese immigrant, Mrs. Kimura married a Japanese immigrant prior to World War II. At the outbreak of the war her husband was arrested by the FBI, and Mrs. Kimura was served notice that her children would be relocated to camps, but she would not be required to go with them because she was white. Mrs. Kimura successfully fought the government officials to accompany her children to the relocation center. Emily Ichida, a high school girl at the outbreak of the war, she attended Topaz schools prior to her release to accept war related work in the interior. Mrs. Ichida worked with the Japanese American Citizens League in San Francisco, California.
