The site of Joy is approximately 30 miles northwest of Delta, Utah, located on the Juab-Millard county line. Drum Mountain Mining District was formed in 1872 and gold, silver, copper, lead, iron, mangenese, and bismuth mining took place. In 1879 the Drum Mountain Mining District was reorganized into the Detroit District by Harry Joy and Charles Howard, who established mining operations and a smetler at Joy. Harry Joy was the founder of Packard Motor Company in Detroit.
