A fire roared through a downtown business block early on October 18, 1962. It completely burned out seven businesses. The main telephone line was cut early in the fire leaving much of Roosevelt without service and disrupting calls. Those businesses suffering losses included Super Tire Market, The Wagon Wheel Gift and Hobby Shop, Grace's Dress Shop, Shirley's Small Frye, Christensen's Department Store, Bradshaw Auto Parts, Center Service and Pontiac Co. Along with the Roosevelt Fire Department others came from Myton and Ft. Duchesne. More help came from pumper trucks sent from Halliburton Company, one by Apex Company and one by Dowell. About 200 fire fighters were involved. |
