Description |
A method is presented for determining kinetic parameters of reversible gas-solid reactions, which are consistent with known thermodynamic values. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a method has been created for such a purpose. The calcium carbonate system, CaCC>3(s) CaO(s) + C02(g), was used as a model for this method. Activation energies for the forward and reverse reaction were found to be 260 + 25 kJ mol"1 and 77 + 25 kJ mol" respectively. The nature of the reaction interface is also explored, through hydration. A review of the calcium carbonate system and some of the more common methods employed in kinetic analysis of solid-state reactions are also presented. |
