Description History: A 48 year old man presented with a 3 mm right proptosis and severe central loss of vision. Visual acuity was 20/200 with absent color vision in the right eye and Afferent Pupillary Defect. Previous lateral orbitotomy and attempt to remove the tumor was unsuccessful. Anatomy: Optic Nerve. Clinical: Visual fields showing a dense central scotoma of the right eye caused by the tumor. Disease Diagnosis: Neurilemmoma; Schwannoma. Neuroimaging: Right optic disc edema secondary to compression of the Optic Nerve by the tumor. A large retrobulbar tumor on the right compressing the Optic Nerve. Coronal view of the tumor again with its relationship to the Optic Nerve pressing it medially. Pathology: Visual fields showing a dense central scotoma of the right eye caused by the tumor. Presenting Symptom: 3 mm right proptosis and severe central loss of vision. Treatment: Surgical removal of the tumor. Post-operatively, the patient recovered vision to the level of 20/40 and has no recurrence of the lesion.
