Description |
The term cylindroma was first used by Billroth in 1859 to describe a tumor arising from the mucous glands of the accessory nasal sinuses. Subsequently, a number of terms have been used to describe this malignant epithelial neoplasm, the most common of which is adenoid cystic carcinoma. Cylindromas are uncommon tumors. They may originate in a variety of anatomic sites, including the major and minor salivary glands, the lacrimal gland, the mucous glands of the lip, cheek, floor of the mouth, tongue, pharynx, tonsil, nasal mucous membrane, paranasal sinuses, larynx, trachea, breast, cervix, digestive tract, and skin. |
