New Listserv Software/Interface by Dan Clawson OIT Currently using Listproc, but we are going to change to Sympa. Performance issues with Listproc, especially with the web interface. Not supported by the vendor (since 1999). Postfix has not been updated since then, and crashes with multiple time sources. See Dan's ppt. Every list gets categorized; Dan is looking for category suggestions. The U has 480+ lists, 280 of which are public, so good categorization is necessary. Example: "Campus Computing" category: IT Managers, PC Managers, Mac Managers, ULUG, etc. Everything is web-based. Subscribers can log into the site to see lists they're subscribed to, unsubscribe, post, search archives, and do document management; list admins get lots of features in one window. Tufts University has recently migrated all their lists from Listproc to Sympa and has given Dan a lot of info. Mail loops can occur when a list is subscribed to another list. But Sympa has a way around this. No DNS changes necessary. Need to play with dynamic element with LDAP and SQL databases. Proposed: July 1 st, all new lists on Sympa, migration to go through October. November 1 st 2005, retire Listproc.
