Description Patients with disturbances of pupillary size or shape often are unaware that any abnormality is present. More often, their spouse, a friend, or a physician brings the abnormality to their attention. The disturbance may appear suddenly, or it may develop gradually over time. It may be present at all times, or it may be episodic. Some pupillary abnormalities may be present for years and are only detected when someone looks at the iris.
