he University of Utah women's track and field team set multiple personal records during competition at the UVU Invitational on Friday. The team was led with first place finishes by Angela Kaplar and Langley Iverson. In the 1500m, Alexis Laws and Rebekah Winterton led the way for the Utes and both set new personal records. Laws finished third overall and clocked a time of 4:48.94 and Winterton earned fourth place with a time of 4:49.20. Kaplar finished first overall in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 13.99. Kaplar also competed in the 100m and finished ninth place with a time of 12.67. The Utes dominated the 400m hurdles claiming three of the top five spots. Alyssa Johnson competed in the event for her first time since joining the Utes and finished with a new personal record time of 1:03.02 earning her second-place. Freshmen Kayla McMurray (1:04.17) and Rosalie Griffin (1:04.24) clocked new personal best times and finished third and fourth places, respectively for the Utes. In the high jump, Iverson cleared the barrier of 5-7.25 and earned first place. Freshman Samantha Eddy competed in the javelin for the Utes, and finished ninth overall with a throw of 118-11.50. The hammer throw featured four Utah athletes in the final round. Anneli Stahl finished second overall with a new personal best mark of 183-00. Cynthia Sanchez (167-07) and Destanae Howerton-Davis (167-4.25) set new personal records and finished in sixth and seventh place. Nikkie Rudder posted a new career best throw of 156-00, which earned her ninth-place. In the shot put, Rudder finished third overall with a throw of 44-9.75. Candus Aiello (44-8.50) and Davis (44-2.00) finished the final round in fourth and fifth place. The discus throw was led by Aiello's mark of 138-4.25, which earned her third overall. Davis (137-0.50) and Rudder (130-5.25) finished fourth and eighth, respectively for the Utes. |
