Description |
The modern mathematics programs created less than twenty years ago, have completely revolutionized the teaching of mathematics. Millions of dollars (28.5 million for curriculum development through 1970 and 15 million for teacher training in 1970 from the National Science Foundation alone,) have been spent in the development and implementation of the new curriculum. Textbooks have been completely rewritten; the entire method of teaching mathematics has changed. The questions this paper will deal with are: "Why was the change thought necessary?" and "How was this change implemented?" |
