A recent trend has been to record the contributions of ear4ly educators to education. Because Eugen Lusk Roberts originated several unique events in education which through the years have continued with wide-spread participation, such a study is a tribute to him. Statement of the Problem: The problem of this thesis was to present the contributions of Eugene L. Roberts in physical education, athletics, and recreational leadership. The problem was to bring to light the history of his aspirations, his inspirations and their total effect on the development of an activity program for all, employed by him throughout his active years in the educational field. And to present these facts in a logical and chronological order, as far as possible. Delimitations: The study was limited primarily to the educational preparation of Eugene L. Roberts; to the period of his services at the Brigham Young University from 1910 to 1928; and the period of his service at the University of Southern California from 1928 to 1945. Emphasis was given to his unique contributions during his professional service in physical education, athleties, social recreation, and recreational leadership. In order to more fully understand the background of the study it was felt to be proper and significant to include a sketch of is early life; information conderning his personal life being excluded where there was no direct bearing upon his contributions. |
