Description During the summers of 1959 and 1960 a study was made of the non-forest plant communities in the Wasatch Mountains under the direction of Dr. Walter P. Cottam. This work supplemented work of the summer of 1958 which was done on the forest communities. A prominent species of the Wasatch Mountains at lower elevations is the Gambel oak (Quercues gambelii Nutt.)
