Description |
P557-400-745A Bridges Dedication - Glen Canyon Field Division - Utah-Arizona. The Colorado River Bridge, shown here, was the scene of dedication ceremonies which officially opened three bridges to traffic at the upper end of Lake Powell. Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. Udall gave a short dedicatory address from the center of this graceful span following an introduction by Governor Calvin L. Rampton of Utah. Lake Powell, when filled to capacity, will come to within 70 feet of the roadbed of this 738 foot arch. The Utah Highway Department constructed this bridge, the Dirty Devil River Bridge, and the White Canyon bridge to give tourists an access to some of the most scenic and spectacular red rock country in Utah.
