Dr Moises Prospero talks about being raised bilingual, using Spanish at home and English outside the home. He discusses growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and people making fun of his accent. He joined the Marine Corps at 17, and talks about some of the incidents he experienced with racial discrimination in the United States and Japan. He talks about his brothers going to school to become engineers and his own academic pursuits that lead him to specialize in psychology and attain a doctoral degree. Prospero also discusses his focus on research in criminal justice. He also recounts issues of colorism in various communities. He discusses class issues in academia due to him coming from a blue collar background when interacting with other faculty. He talks about his priorities in mentoring students and focusing his research to work with the community, including working with law enforcement agencies.
