Title Questioning Ideas of Strength and Forever
Creator Jes Booth
Description A large steel sculpture; it resembles something rotting, like an apple core. The dirty, off-white paper and curves of the wrapping give an organic, softened appearance despite it's ridgid and strong material . This piece was displayed as part of the 2024 exhibition "Selfographies". / "Identity is vital for us as humans to explore and understand. So many of us spend our entire lives searching for who we are individually and within the different relationships and ecosystems that we interact with. This body of work explores the relationships of mankind with the natural world and my own individual identity in relation with the natural world. Putting into perspective the interdependence of all living things both human and non-human and how that shapes all identity is key to building consciousness to improving our world. Partnership with my materials is central to my art making process. As I work together with my materials, I am weaving our identities together, creating this connection of identities that is embodied by the objects. The objects then become a tangible representation of my meditative therapeutic art process. Grounding my sense of self as I strive to understand and learn who I am within this world."
