The attitude is that in which he used to walk in the latter part of his life. He had bad attacks of gout and limped with a stick."; "The spirit of the housekeeper of the sitter's father. She had a habit of plucking nervously at her dress, and the trick is preserved for identification. The cap is one which the sitter had bought in Paris as a present to her. Taken June 28, 1872.
