Description |
Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) is a systemic vasculitis of the elderly characterized by new-onset headache, jaw claudication, and constitutional symptoms. Visual loss results from ischemic damage of the optic nerve via inflammatory and thrombotic occlusion of arterial supply. Temporal artery biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis, usually guided by preliminary diagnostic tools. |
