Trachesostomy Patient Emergency Preparedness

Overview for conference marketing materials: This quality improvement initiative is in response to multiple instances where the safety of a tracheostomy was compromised due to lack of supplies and back up tracheostomies available. By standardizing a supply list and protocol for emergency decannulations we are able to provide the highest level of care possible. These supplies travel everywhere with the patient to be ready in the event of accidental decannulation or airway event. Having these protocols and standard supply list in place allows healthcare staff to respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an emergency and decrease instances of adverse outcomes.
