After 4 heptathlon events, Allen won the shot put with a throw of 36' 9.00" and placed third in the 200 meters (25.83). She had season best performances in her second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.88) and third place finish in the high jump (5' 1.75"). Slade placed fifth in the 200 meters (26.14) and seventh in the shot put (33' 5.75"). She finished sixth in both the high jump (5' 0.50") and the 100-meter hurdles (15.22). Sophomore Erianne Allen placed third in the heptathlon and was named all-conference with 4,932 points and freshman Kristy Slade took sixth place earning 4,576 points at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. Allen was the javelin champion, her second title, with a throw of 130' 3.00". She won the shot put on Wednesday (36' 9.00"). She placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 20.13 seconds and 10th in the long jump (4.66m). Slade finished eighth in the javelin (100' 9.00") and 800 meters (2:30.47) and placed third in the long jump (5.17m). Allen moved into second place and Slade into third on Utah's all-time top performance list in the heptathlon. Utah senior Travis Hildebrand won the Mountain West Conference 10,000 meter title on Friday with a last lap kick at the outdoor championships. His time of 31 minutes, 58.11 seconds, gave Hildebrand his second conference title of the year and he was named all-conference along with two other Utah athletes. Junior Chantel Goldsberry was named all-conference, provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships and set a new school record for her third place finish in the hammer throw. Her toss of 190' 5.0" broke her old school record and personal best by more than seven inches. Katherina Gallahar also provisionally qualified and placed fifth with a throw of 185' 0.0". She moves into second place in Utah's record book. Mindy Wilder came away with all-conference honors for placing third in the javelin with a throw of 138' 8.0". Erianne Allen placed fifth with a new personal best throw of 132' 7.0". Allen (57.84) and Tracy Hamblin (58.19) advance to the 400 meter finals on Saturday for their sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively. Hamblin had a personal best performance in the 200 meters (25.96) as did Autumn Spence (25.67), but both failed to advance to the 200 meter finals. Senior Elisha Kekacs advances to the finals in two hurdle events. She placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.13 and third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.68. Johanna Nielsen placed fourth in the 10,000 meters (37:00.57) and Adam Stark placed fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:30.35). Audrey Kiser finished eighth in the shot put (42' 4.00"). FINAL DAY: Utah's list of all-conference honors grew on Saturday bringing the total number to six as Chris Merkely and Teren Jameson earned all-conference for taking second in their respective events on the final day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Provo, Utah. Merkley earned all-conference for his second place finish and provisionally qualified for the NCAA outdoor championships with a time of 3 minutes, 48.51 seconds in the 1,500 meters. Merkley has already provisionally qualified in the 5,000. Jameson earned all-conference and also placed second clocking in at 14:57.34 in the 5,000 meter race. Elisha Kekacs just missed earning all-conference with a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.74). She placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14:24. Tracy Hamblin took seventh in the 400 meter dash clocking in at 58.04. The women's relay team placed sixth (48.26) in the 4x100 and the 4x400 (3:53.63). Thomas Fortune finished 10th in the men's discus throw (142' 5.0") and Alisha Worthley placed 13th in the women's discus (125' 5.0"). Freshman Alexandria Nash took 11th in the triple jump (35' 6.75"). The women's team placed seventh in the conference with 50 points while the men finished sixth earning 31. |
