Description Headache is a public health problem of tremendous scope and impact. A U.S. survey of 40,000 households (112,000 persons) found that 5.5 days of restricted activity per 100 person-years were due to headache. In another study, 8% of males and 14% of females missed all or part of a day at work in the 4-week period prior to the interview. Headache also results in frequent utilization of emergency rooms and urgent care centers. Despite this, many headache syndromes (including migraine) remain underdiagnosed.
