Subject Men; Bureau of Land Managment--BLM--Reseeding Project; Airplane
Spatial Coverage Vernal (Utah)
Description Men load bags of seed into an airplane for a BLM reseeding project. A 3,000 acre "chaining" and seeding project on the Vernal District was completed during October and November of 1964. "Chaining" is a process where a heavy anchor chain from a ship is pulled along the ground between two dozers. The chain knocks over and rips juniper and pinion trees up by their roots. It also stirs up the soil. Soon after the chaining, seeds of various forage producing grasses and browse plants are dropped from an airplane. This provides more foliage for livestock and wildlife.
