Description |
Alta View Hospital, located in Sandy, is a full-service community hospital serving the primary healthcare needs of the South Salt Lake Valley. The hospital opened in January, 1982 as a 50-bed facility and, in 1987, expanded to a 70-bed hospital with the opening of the Women's Center. As of December, 1989, there were 112 active physicians on staff. Among Alta View's present services are the recently expanded Emergency Room, which records nearly 30,000 visits per year; the Surgical Center, which offers many procedures on an outpatient basis; and the Women's Center, which introduced a new, single-room birthing concept. Because of the breadth of services available, it is important for healthcare providers to understand the changing healthcare needs of their community. Since small hospitals, such as Alta View, must depend on local patronage for revenues rather than valley-wide referrals, it is particularly important to maintain a positive image among area residents and offer those services which are necessary and expected within the community. Thus, the purpose of this project is to reassess Alta View Hospital's service area and determine the needs and attitudes of that market, which will facilitate Alta View's future focus on services,;medical specialties, and promotional strategies. |
