Woven Navajo Transitional Rug from 1900-1910. Rug is in poor condition from wear and water damage. Warp and weft are handspun wool. Dyes are analine except in the top diamond where indigo is the blue dye. Some indigo yarn is woven into the brown border where it ends in a line that crosses the corner as a brown spirit line.This would be one of the earliest examples of a spirit line (per H. Jackson Clark II). There are five center triangles done in blacks on an orange/red background. Brown; border is on all four sides.. Width 137, Length 192.5 Centimeters |
