Description |
Cynthia Buckingham, Utah Humanities Executive Director and former Assistant Director, talks about her thirty-five years at Utah Humanities (1983-2018). This is Buckingham's first of two interview for this project. In 2018, Buckingham concluded her stellar career with Utah Humanities where she served as the Executive Director from 1997-2018 and Associate Director, then called Utah Endowment for the Humanities, from 1983-1997. Cynthia began her humanities career as an administrative assistant for the Federation of State Humanities Councils in 1980 in Minnesota. She was one of the founding members of the Utah Cultural Alliance, which rallied to help pass the Salt Lake County Zoo Arts and Parks tax (ZAP) that supports non-profit organizations, like UH, in Utah. Cynthia recalled her Utah Humanities work, including participation with the Regranting Program, Speaker's Bureau, Utah Humanities Book Festival, Museum on Main Street, Motheread/Fatheread, lobbying, fund-raising, and board recruitment, training, and meetings. Cynthia also discussed the outstanding contributions of Utah Humanities' staff and board members. |
