The Teen Mother and Child Program's Personal Responsibility and Education Program, a comprehensive sexuality education program, was in need of several improvements including: HPV education, goal-setting education, revision of pre and post-tests, and increasing the number of participants. Research was completed and methods were developed to address these needs and improve outcomes of the program. Methods implemented included: HPV education and prevention PowerPoint and Handouts, S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting education and tool, revised pre and post-test, data template with an included How to Guide, and an outreach presentation. By implementing these methods, adolescent females ages 15-19 showed increased knowledge in prevention strategies and goal-setting, and the ability to make healthier life decisions. Nurses are well positioned to provide health promotion and prevention education to individuals, families, and communities. Through completing this project as a student nurse, I plan continue my efforts to improve health within the adolescent population. |
