Description |
Hemis Kachina (Jemez Kachina) has a case mask of which one half is bright blue outlined in red, and the other half orange outlined bright blue. The different coloured halfs are divided by a black vertical band on which are white circles (corn grains). Rectangular black eyes. No mouth or ears. The mask is surmounted by an elaborate blue and white tableta painted with black and white phallic symbols on front and back side and trimmed with natural feathers. A visor is attached on the forehead; which underneath is painted blue, yellow and red, representing a rainbow; top of visor nd top portion of the head are painted black and white and trimmed with natural feathers. Green coloured cotton cord around neck. Black body paint with yellow neck and shoulders. White hands. Yellow lower legs. Painted white embroidered kilt and bright blue moccasins. Commercially manufactured paint and dyed cotton cord. The Hemis Kachina usually carries a rattle and a sprig of Doug. Height 21.2, Width 6.1, Length 6.1 Centimeters |
