Inscription reads: Sacred to the memory of Captain John W. Gunnison, USA. J. Creuzfeld, Botanist. R.H. Kern, artist Wm. Potter, guide John Bellows. Private Liptrott, USA Private Caulfield, USA Private Marteens, USA who were massacred by Indians at this spot Oct. 26, 1853. Erected A.D. 1927. By American Legion, Daughters of Pioneers, Boy Scouts of America. |
