Description Men and women, probably employees of the Pacific Hotel, pose on the front porch that advertises "wines, liquors & cigars" for travelers. Rich in transportation and communication history, Echo was settled in 1854 by James Bromley, station manager for the Overland Stage Company. In 1860 the Pony Express also used Echo as a station. In 1861 the Overland telegraph office set up an express station in Echo. The town boomed as the Union Pacific came through. It was hit hard by the 1929 depression and improved technology and the town died away. A small community still exists and the area is popular with tourists.
