Description A condition somewhat similar to PADS occurs mostly in China and initially was called the Chinese Paralytic Syndrome; however, cases occur in countries other than China, including Mexico, Spain, and South Korea. Accordingly, a more appropriate term is acute motor axonal neuropathy. AMAN occurs mostly among rural residents of northern China, usually during the summer and primarily in children. Like AIDP and PADS, AMAN seems to occur most often in patients with serologic evidence of recent Campylobacter jejuni infection. It appears as though the immune attack is directed against the axolemma and nodes of Ranvier in AMAN, sites different from those implicated in AIDP.
