Sioux awl case dating 1890; stiff leather substrate establishes a narrow connical form; the entire length of the case is embelished with continuous wrapped beadwork; a strand of beads is wrapped around the stubstrate and anchored intermittently; color changes occur seamlessly as new beads are added. A balanced design of horizontal stripes alternates turquoise, green, white, green, turquoise, navy, yellow, navy, and so on. A lane-stitch beaded leather flap covers the top opening and drapes down; over the case. The design on the flap incorporates the colors on the body of the case and comprises rectangles on a field of turquoise; the flap is edged with turquoise beads; it is attached with with stitching; a thong at the top provides a hanging loop; a second thong occurs inside the top of the case, beneath the flap; tin cones with red feather inserts adorn the flap's top and bottom, the bottom of the case, and the ends of the fringe at the case bottom.
