Isaac Atencio discusses growing up in Salt Lake City, living in Rose Park, and his memories of attending West High. He first started studying architecture and then was encouraged to go into police work. He also discusses his love of Mexican music and his experiences as a musician. Atencio recounts visiting New Mexico as a child and being raised in Catholic traditions. He discusses the Black Lives Matter movement and the impact it had on policing. He also discusses police training programs and the history of his career with 27 years served in the Salt Lake City police department. He mentions co-hosing a Mexican radio show as part of a community outreach initiative. Atencio details difficulties with gang policing in the 1990s, and his involvement with training programs for police officers.
