Welch's hair is combed to one side and he wears a semi-full beard. His head is turned looking away from the camera. The photograph is oval shaped with a light colored square border filling in the rest of the area around the actual photograph. |
Further Information |
The overall condition of the photograph is excellent as there is no discoloration and the edges are free from any wear and tear. The photograph is also free from any handwritten marks on the front side; however, it is a fair quality photograph with apparent limitations compared to that of a major photography studio. There are black development blotches that are sporadically spread throughout the photograph. On the back is pencil written, "Josiah Welch." there also is the number "3514" stamped below the name. The rest of the backside is free from any marks and blemishes. Born in Virginia in 1841 and reared in Ohio, Josiah Welch came to the Salt Lake Valley in September of 1891 after Richard Kendall reassigned him from the Montana mission. He organized the First Presbyterian Church on November 12, 1871. The church started off with ten charter members and met in various places to worship. In the spring of 1874 church trustee members secured lots, with the money made by Welch's fundrai |
