Fresh Start

Fresh Start was inspired initially by a Chinese myth about Meng Po, a deity whose role in reincarnation is to give you a tea that erases everything from your past so that as you are reincarnated, you have a fresh slate that isn't encumbered by the past. Similar ideas of rebirth and the constant cycling of energy into new forms is found abundantly in nature. The number 115 in numerology is symbolic of major life changes and to embrace new opportunities with optimism and positivity. As I was researching trees and water sources relationships, I found that trees help to filter and purify groundwater. This knowledge blended beautifully with the myth about a tea used for filtering the human spirit for its next journey. I wanted to weave these cups together to show the networks and mutually beneficial relationship between water sources and trees and symbolically tie that to how the natural world and humanity could also enter into a similar relationship. This piece is part of the MFA Exhibition "Woven Worlds".
