The Utah men's golf team closed out the Amer Ari Invitational on Saturday, moving up three places on the team leaderboard on the final day to finish in 10th place at the Waikoloa Kings' course in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Utah's four scorers combined for a final round score of even par (288). The Utes put together a 54-hole score of 3-under par (281-292-288=861) to open the 2019 spring schedule. Senior Kyler Dunkle finished as the high Ute in the three-day event, tying for 22nd place with a combined score of 5-under par (211). Dunkle shot 1-under par (71) in the final round to notch three rounds at par or better in the event. Dunkle also led the entire field in scoring average on par-5's. Junior Mitchell Schow also finished the tournament under par, posting a combined score of 2-under par (214) to finish tied for 37th overall. Schow recorded a score of 1-over par (73) to close out the event. The sophomore duo of Tristan Mandur and Blake Tomlinson finished tied for 58th place with 54-hole scores of 2-over par (218). Mandur had his best round of the Amer Ari Invitational on Saturday, finishing 2-under par (70) for the final round, while Tomlinson recorded a score of 2-over par (74). Rounding out Utah's five-man team, junior Jordan Costello shot 6-over par (78) to finish tied for 94th place with a combined score of 11-over par (227). Freshman Axel Einarsson finished tied for 81st overall playing as an individual in the Amer Ari Invitational. Einarsson had a 54-hole score of 7-over par (223) after posting a final-round 6-over par (78). The Utes finished the event tied for the most eagles recorded with five total. Tomlinson sank one during the first round, Dunkle buried two eagles during the first round, while Schow had one in the first and third rounds. Leading the 18-team field every day of the event, Oklahoma State held onto the lead and came away with the team title with a combined score of 47-under par. Auburn (-37) finished in second place, Texas (-35) placed third, while Southern California (-30) and Oregon (-30) tied for fourth place to round out the top-five teams. |
