Salt Lake City's Redevelopment Agency is looking to enhance a location located on the west side of the city. Located between 200-400 South and 500-600 West, the Redevelopment Agency wants to create an innovation district that not only fosters innovation, but it creates an ‘18-hour' district that supports ground floor retail and provides affordable housing within the development area. A large focus of this project is to incorporate elements for community health, such as food security, nutrition, and health equity and education. In response, this document focuses on incorporating food security within the dense innovation district called Station Center. experience for all in the development. For equity, vertical farms and rooftop gardens can provide diverse opportunities for people to gain experience no matter their history. They can promote green jobs that give opportunities for individuals, such as the previously incarcerated, that are not given the second chance that they deserve. All in all, this document recommends different ways on how Station Center could provide a sense of food security within the development. It will go into detail about how vertical farms and rooftop gardens promote food security and economic vitality, how they promote equity within the development, and who do they benefit and in what way. To get a grasp on how vertical farms and rooftop gardens do these this document will success stories, or examples, on how they achieve theses. Finally, this paper will provide other consideration that could be tackled within the development. 1 |
