Abstract Herbert Clark (b. 1923) enlisted in the Marine Corps in the Spring of 1942. He went to San Diego for his basic training and was assigned to H Company, 2nd Battalion of the 9th Regiment. H Company was trained in heavy weapons--machine guns and mortars. He was shipped to the Pacific Theater aboard the Mount Vernon, stopping in Hawaii and New Caledonia prior to arriving in Auckland, New Zealand, for several months of training for beachheads. Clark's division went to Guadalcanal as a replacement division and remained there until the island was secure. He also participated in the invasions of Bougainville and Guam. He was discharged from the service in October 1945. 85 pages.
