Collection Overview +/-
Collection Inventory +/-Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-Dayspring was a spiritual renewal organization based in the Nunemaker Center at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. The non-denominational organization, funded by a private foundation, emphasized the continuing education of clergy and lay persons. While Dayspring is known to have existed from 1978-1980, no clear start and end date has been established. It appears to have been organized by Rev. Horace M. McMullen, director of Dayspring, and a minister of Holladay United Church of Christ in Utah. According to an article published October 1979 in the Deseret News, the name "Dayspring" comes from references found in the books of Job and Luke in the King James version of the Bible, and is a poetic term for dawn. The article, which describes a set of seminars to be held at Westminster College, also mentions that "using a grant from the United Church of Christ Board for Home and Ministries, Dayspring is enabling black clergy in the area to continue their education as students at Westminster College."
